Sage – Queen of Medicinal Herb

Sage, Salvia, I love it. I’m forcing some of my friends (Sorry I.!)  to at least apreciate the healing powers of it, but I understand they don’t like the taste, it took me years to start loving it.

Just stumbled across this great blog, stressing the qualities of this amazing plant. Thank you Jelena & Nada.

Dutch lunch

You know I don’t daily enjoy a typical Dutch lunch, but sometimes I’m a typical Dutchie. Today I went to eat out because its still too cold at the new office, so I was craving for a hot cup of soup. Untill I smelled the kroketten and thought… Why not…

My first…

I’m going to get my first Mac!
I’m so excited & I can’t wait… (with Windows that is, I’m still a bit “scared” of Apple).

What Apple products to YOU use? How long did it take you to get used to them? How satisfied are you & what would you change? Do you have any tips for me? Do’s & don’ts ?

Frikadel Jagung or Perkedel Djagoeng (Indonesian corn cookies)

I promised so long ago…. sorry guys! I’ll make them soon again for The Posse!

The recipe is so simple you can’t ..eeh…mess up.
Actually, there are numerous recipes (and pronounciations of the dish too) and when you get the hang of it, you can start playing around.
I simply make sure I usually have a can of corn on stock, flour, an onion and an egg or 2 are usually present at home too.

Okay so let’s try my grandmoms recipe that can’t fail:

Bahan-bahan (ingredients):

  • a can of corn
  • a small onion
  • 2 eggs
  • salt to taste
  • some pepper
  • some parsley
  • 1-2 tablespoons of flour (I generally “don’t do” measurements, work on feeling!  Don’t stick to just 2 tablespoons ifyou think you need more. The dough should be thick enough!)
  • (sunflower) oil

Cara membuat (How to cook):

  • Chop the onions and parsley finely
  • Beat the eggs and mix all ingredients
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan or wok
  • Fry a tablespoon of the mixture until golden brown and let it drain on kitchen paper
  • you can make a few “cookies” or patties at the same time, just make sure they don’t stick together.

Frikadel jagung

TIP: Next time vary with Coriander/garlic/chilli/red or spring onion/ or add some shrimps…

Selamat makan!

P.S.: These corn cookies taste good with anything!

On November 3rd, 50 Amsterdam Museums are open from 7PM until 2AM for the annual Museum Night.
Apart from seeing the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions there is plenty more to see and do, also for non-Dutch visitors. On this 13th edition you can enjoy live music, DJ’s, dance, performances, film, special tours, food & drinks in the many museums of the city. For the Museum Night you buy a ticket (€ 17.50,-), which gives you entrance to 50 museums, free use of all GVB buses and trams and 1 free museum visit valid until December 31st 2012. Museum Night is organised by N8 | Stichting Museumnacht Amsterdam.

I recommend you to pass by the POP-UP location of the Pers Museum on Museumplein, one of my favourite museums!
